Chuck was a little bit timid when we first pulled him out of a small rural shelter, but my goodness has he come out of his shell!  Chuck is friendly to the point of being exuberant -- he wants nothing more than for his people to love him -- hug him, pet him, tell him what a good boy he is. Chuck is still learning the OFF command -- in his excitement he wants to jump up on people, but he's getting much better. He already knows to SIT for treats and for his food bowl to be put down.

Chuck gets along well with other dogs, both male and female. During his time with us, he has shared the play yard with a few different Great Pyrenees, Akbash dogs, a Bernese Mountain Dog, and even a Flat-Coat Retriever mix. So he doesn't seem to discriminate based on breed or color. He hasn't met any small dogs during his stay with us, and our barn cats don't typically go into the play yard, so we don't know how Chuck would respond to cats.

Because we are currently so crowded with dogs, we haven't been able to move Chuck inside the house. He lives outside mostly, with access to our garage for shelter. We feed him inside a 5' x 5' kennel in the garage and he doesn't like the confinement. The only time we have had him in a crate is during transport, and he has behaved OK then. We would love to find a foster home for Chuck where he could make the transition to living inside the house and get more crate-training.

Our best guess based on his looks and temperament is that Chuck is a Pyrador -- a Great Pyrenees/Labrador mix.  He has the higher energy of a Labrador Retriever rather than the laid back disposition of a Great Pyrenees, so we think he might be a great companion for walks, maybe for hiking and camping? Chuck is NOT livestock guardian material. His prey drive is not so high that he's going to breach the fence to attack livestock, but if they cross his path, he will definitely chase a goat.

If you need an energetic, people-hugging big dog in your life, then Chuck might be exactly the dog you need. Complete the application on our website and we'll be glad to schedule a time for you to meet this handsome boy!
