Ike arrived here on the anniversary of D-Day - June 6 - so we named him "Ike" in honor of the Supreme Commander of the D-Day operation, General (later President) Dwight D. Eisenhower. Ike had been roaming in a rural area, and a nice family was feeding him any time he showed up at their place. One day Ike showed up with an obvious injury to his leg, and X-rays showed that is was broken and that he had been shot. Our best guess is that when he ran away from the shooter, he ran into the road and got hit by a car. He spent several weeks confined to a crate for most of his day as we let his leg heal.  After 8 long weeks in a splint, with crate rest and very limited walks, Ike can now start the next stage of his recovery.

Ike looks to be young, probably just a year old, and he's very sweet and has lots of energy.  He is a friendly boy who likes to play with the other dogs that he shares a yard with. Ike goes into our chicken yard every day and so far appears safe with our chickens. We don't know much about his history as to whether he is safe with livestock or cats. Ike is crate trained and likes his crate. He readily goes into it every day at mealtime and bedtime.
