Great Pyrenees (long coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Adult : : X-Large
I would love you more than you can imagine.
Norman was picked up by our friends at Grayson County Animal Control in a rural area where too many farmers and ranchers seem to think it's OK to allow their dogs to roam. He's the fourth Pyrenees we took in from the same area, and all suffered injuries they wouldn't have if they were confined to their home property by good fencing. Norman's injuries needed immediate veterinary care, so he went straight from the spot where he was lying near the highway to the vet's office. I'm only posting the photos that are least likely to bother any of you who are sensitive to graphic images. Just know that the other injuries were worse.
Norman spent his first week in rescue at the vet hospital so they could treat and clean his wounds frequently, then came home to Windsong Ranch. We made a few trips back to the vet for wound care, and each time he was sedated so the wounds could be debrided. Then some lavage (water therapy), re-suturing, and laser treatments. His wounds have finally healed and Norman is ready to find his forever home.
Norman is an extremely sweet boy who isn't demanding and yet loves lots of attention from his humans. He will walk nicely on a leash, but our vet advised that it's also good to let him get his exercise going around the ranch with us -- something as simple as getting up from a nap and taking a walk up the hill from the house to the barn helps strengthen his muscles. So if you have a couple of acres (or more), instead of taking leash walks, you might do as I do and enjoy Norman's company as you do your daily chores.
Norman likes being part of the family, so he is happy wherever you are, whether that's in the house or out working in the yard or garden. He gets along with other dogs, doesn't seem to notice the cats much at all, and is safe with our chickens. He's an all-around GREAT Pyrenees. To consider making Norman a part of your family, please submit your application on our website at www.bluebonnetrescue.org/info/adoption.
